John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s family keeps on growing!
The power couple, who wed in 2013, welcomed their fifth child — a son named Wren — via surrogacy on June 19, 2023.
Although the pair kept the surrogacy a secret, Teigen has been very outspoken about her difficult journey to motherhood over the years.
The model first spoke out about her infertility issues back in 2015, revealing that she and Legend were “having trouble” conceiving.
“We would have kids five, six years ago if it’d happened,” she said on her FABlife talk show. “But my gosh, it’s been a process! We’ve seen fertility doctors.”
While the road to parenthood wasn’t always easy, Teigen finally has the big family she always dreamed about.

Luna Simone Stephens (born 2016)
The “All of Me” singer and Teigen welcomed their first child, a daughter named Luna Simone Stephens, in April 2016.
The “Lip Sync Battle” host, who underwent IVF treatments, admitted at the time that she wanted their first child to be a girl because she was “allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl.”
“I made the decision: Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from the little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl,’” the model told People.
Yet when the little one was born, the pair still hadn’t chosen a name. It wasn’t until an astronomical phenomenon occurred two days after her birth that they finally settled on Luna.
“There was a blood moon happening, and it was a really beautiful night,” Teigen shared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018. “There was a really big, vivid, red moon. It was just gorgeous. And I have this love for space. I think about space camp all the time, and my time there as a youngster.”
As for her middle name, the couple paid homage to legendary singer Nina Simone.
Now that Luna is all grown up, she and her mother are two peas in a pod, with the model often sharing photos of their adventures on Instagram.
“John tells me almost every day how much our daughter Luna reminds him of me. Every day, I try to make sure she’s all the best parts of me, all the things I aspire to be all the time, but fail at sometimes,” Teigen wrote on her blog in 2021.
Both Teigen and Legend have even had tattoos drawn by Luna. While the model has a butterfly, Legend opted for a bouquet of flowers.
Miles Theodore Stephens (born 2018)
Luna became an older sister in May 2018 after Teigen gave birth to a baby boy named Miles.
“Hello, world! This is Miles Theodore Stephens,” the supermodel and mom captioned a snap on Instagram at the time. “We are drowning in his little peeps and nuzzles. Our household feels overwhelmed with love. Thank you for all your well wishes.”
Similarly to the inspiration behind Luna’s middle name, the pair chose the name Miles in honor of the great Miles Davis.
“We named our first daughter Luna Simone Stephens, and every name we give to our kids will have a little bit of musical history to it,” Legend told Glamour in 2018. “Chrissy really liked the name Theodore, so we put it all together and had Miles Theodore Stephens.”
Like all siblings, sometimes things get a little out of hand. In fact, Miles once “accidentally” kicked out one of Luna’s front teeth.
In 2022, the “Cravings” cookbook author shared a video of her son running into their house in swim trunks, yelling, “I got Luna’s tooth out! I knocked her mouth, and it just came out.”
When Miles, who looks nearly identical to his famous father, isn’t roughhousing with his sister, he can be found crushing it on the T-ball field or helping his mom in the kitchen.
Baby Jack (born 2020)
Teigen revealed that she suffered a stillbirth at 20 weeks pregnant on Instagram in September 2020.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough,” she captioned a black and white photo from the hospital.
“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital,” she continued.
“But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
Two years later, the model revealed that Jack had died from a “life-saving abortion” — not a miscarriage.
“Let’s just call it what it was: It was an abortion,” Teigen said at Propper Daley’s “A Day of Unreasonable Conversation” summit. “An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance. And to be honest, I never, ever put that together until, actually, a few months ago.”
In honor of baby Jack, the couple have matching tattoos and planted a “tree of life” in the middle of their luxe Beverly Hills home.
“We have this new home that we’re building and this tree being planted inside the home,” she told People. “The whole reason why I wanted it was so Jack’s ashes could be in that soil and he could be with us all the time and grow through the beautiful leaves in this tree and always be a part of us.”
Esti Maxine Stephens (born January 2023)
Teigen and Legend welcomed their rainbow baby, a daughter named Esti, in January 2023 after undergoing IVF.
The 12-time Grammy Award winner announced the exciting news at a private concert, which Teigen later confirmed on Instagram.
“She’s here! Esti Maxine Stephens – the house is bustling and our family could not be happier,” Teigen captioned a photo of Luna and Miles holding their baby sister. “Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love, and I am learning you still need diapers with a c section!? We are in bliss.”
Unlike their other two, the couple didn’t take any inspiration from music legends when choosing Esti’s name.
“once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther,’” Legend told E! News.
“We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine,” he continued. “So, it’s a lot of my family in the name.”
Since welcoming the little one, Teigen has shared dozens of snaps cuddled up to her “perfect” rainbow baby.
Wren Alexander Stephens (born June 2023)
The couple shocked the world by announcing their son Wren Alexander’s birth on Instagram in June 2023, just five months after welcoming Esti.
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted four children,” Teigen wrote, revealing they began pursuing surrogacy as an option in 2021 because she didn’t think she would “be able to carry any more babies on my own.”
Soon after, the pair met their “perfect match” surrogate, Alexandra, who was the inspiration for Wren’s middle name.
While the couple’s first embryo transfer with their gestational carrier did not survive, they were “overjoyed to learn Alexandra had become pregnant with a little boy” at the same time that Teigen was pregnant with Esti.
Wren arrived on June 19 “just minutes before midnight.”
“We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra,” the cookbook author continued. “Our hearts and our home are officially full. And to our Jack, we know both their angel kisses are from you.”
Legend later shared a sweet photo with his four children while cradling his two babies in each arm.
The couple’s two older children were seen smiling and striking a silly pose on either side.
“Wren Alexander Stephens, our new love,” Legend captioned the post, which also featured a photo of him and Teigen snuggled up to their newest addition.
