Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s breakup made headlines in April — but Jack Antonoff has left fans convinced the former couple were on the rocks long before.
When the Bleachers frontman celebrated the release of “You’re Losing Me” via Instagram Stories Wednesday, he revealed when the “very special track from the ‘Midnights’ sessions that’s finally streaming” came to be.
“Written and recorded at home on 12/5/21 after Taylor ate these raisins,” Antonoff, 39, captioned a photo of Swift, 33, snacking.
The breakup ballad, which was initially featured on an exclusive CD edition sold to fans at her New Jersey Eras Tour stop in May, is speculated to be about Alwyn.
With the 32-year-old actor in mind, Swifties were shocked by the date Antonoff listed.
“taylor knew her and joe were over all the way in 2021,” one Twitter user guessed.
Another called the track “taylor talking s–t about joe while they were together.”
A third user wrote, “Jack confirming ‘You’re Losing Me’ was written in 2021 rewrites so much Taylor and Joe history. Never getting over this breakup, sorry not sorry.”
In the song, Swift debates “throw[ing] out everything we built or keep[ing] it” and claims the mystery man “might have just dealt the final blow.”
She sings, “I glared at you with storms in my eyes / How can you say that you love someone you can’t tell is dying? / I sent you signals and bit my nails down to the quick / My face was gray, but you wouldn’t admit that we were sick.”
Swift adds in the bridge that she “wouldn’t marry [herself] either” since she’s a “pathological people pleaser who only wanted” her significant other “to see [her].”

The verse concludes, “I’m fading thinking / Do something, babe, say something / Lose something, babe, risk something / Choose something, babe, I got nothing to believe, unless you’re choosing me.”
When Pvnew confirmed earlier this year that Swift and Alwyn had called it quits after six years together, a source alleged that the relationship simply “ran its course.”
The insider claimed, “It wasn’t dramatic.”
The Grammy winner briefly moved on with Matty Healy of the 1975 in May and is now dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
