Keke Palmer had to learn the hard way.
The singer and actress candidly described how her upbringing led to a “rude awakening” as she entered the dating world on Tuesday’s episode of her “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast.
Speaking to her mom, Sharon Palmer, she admitted she thought all men would be respectful toward women since that’s what she saw in her household.
“So misogyny came at me hard and quick, with the quickness,” she said.
“I grew up in a house where my mom would say, ‘This is what it needs to be.’ And [my father] Larry would be like, ‘OK, Sharon. Go on ahead, Sharon.'”
Keke added, “So, for me, when I entered outside of my household and I saw that everybody doesn’t really respect their wives or even women in the way that my dad respects my mom, it [was] a pretty rude awakening.”
Later on in the podcast episode, Palmer, 30, spoke about being in an “intimate scenario with someone” and not feeling seen.
Her comments came as she remains under the protection of the temporary restraining order she was granted against her ex Darius Jackson on Nov. 10 after he allegedly assaulted her both physically and verbally in front of their 9-month-old son, Leodis.
In court documents obtained by Pvnew, Palmer recalled two alleged incidents of abuse.
“In the bedroom, he slammed me on the floor and slapped my head from side to side,” the “Nope” star claimed.
“The next morning, he was standing at the bottom of the stairs near the front door, screaming at me as I was coming down the stairs.”
The second alleged attack occurred right before she requested the restraining order.
Jackson, 29, allegedly broke into her home, “lunged at [her], grabbing at [her] neck and face, knocked [her] backwards over the couch, stole [her] phone” and then left the residence.
She also shared disturbing footage of the latter altercation that seemingly supports her claims.
In addition to the restraining order, Palmer filed for sole custody of their son.
She and Leodis were both seen leaving her Studio City, Calif., residence one day after being granted the temporary restraining order.
Days later, Palmer’s mom admitted she “feared” for her daughter’s life when she was with Jackson.
Palmer and Jackson began dating in 2021 and welcomed their baby boy in February.
