A lucky fan who was hired as one of the first-ever Taylor Swift beat reporters this fall — and his USA Today/Gannett colleague whose literal job is to report on Beyoncé — have revealed how they snagged their dream roles.
(Post critic Johnny Oleksinski — who recently left to become the Taylor Swift reporter for the Tennessean newspaper, also owned by Gannett — was the first to report on the impossibly grueling daily schedule.)
Newly-hired Swiftie Bryan West, 35, said he had left the industry altogether and didn’t think he’d ever return to a newsroom — and then the position emerged.
“I said ‘The only thing that could bring me back is if I could report on Taylor every day,’ ” Bryan West told Gayle King and Charles Barkley on their new show “King Charles.”
