Jason Mraz is reflecting on his time spent on stage with Taylor Swift.
Following Tuesday’s Swift-themed episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” the Grammy-winning singer spoke to Pvnew about what it was like performing as the pop star’s surprise guest at her “Speak Now” tour stop in Los Angeles in 2011.
The two sang a duet of his hit song “I’m Yours” at the Crypto Arena, previously known as the Staples Center.
“It was so wonderful! She’s such a generous performer, sharing the stage with other artists and acknowledging her dancers and her crew,” Mraz, 46, recalled.
“It was nice to have experienced that myself and get to sing on a stage with her. She’s a real person and that’s what I love about her success,” he continued.
“She didn’t come out of a machine, she wasn’t fabricated. She started playing her songs at The Bluebird in Nashville and the whole globe recognizes that.”
Mraz also shared how Swift, 33, has personally inspired him as an artist over the years.
“To be yourself, and the work ethic as well,” he explained, calling Swift an artist who has “almost overwhelmed” him with volume. “If you love what you do, you share it, and that’s what she’s doing well.”
During Tuesday’s “Taylor Swift Night,” Mraz and his pro partner, Daniella Karagach, danced a fiery Argentine tango to “Don’t Blame Me,” which helped them land a well-deserved spot in the Season 32 Semi-Finals.
Mraz realized in his interview with Pvnew that he’s the last male celebrity standing in the competition against Ariana Madix, Charity Lawson, Alyson Hannigan and Xochitl Gomez.
“I don’t think it’s sunk in yet, it’s just crazy. We’ve been working so hard and we’ve both been so sick,” Karagach, 30, told us.
“So just to get out here and perform to the best that we could was already such a huge accomplishment for us.”
The performance received a perfect score of 40/40 from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli and guest Mandy Moore, who continued to rave about it while speaking to Pvnew post-show.
“I really thought Jason came out just swinging tonight. I’ve been watching since the first episode with this cast and he started out bright,” Moore, who choreographed Swift’s Eras Tour, told us, noting that the “Lover” singer would have loved it, too.
“Then he kind of faded and he really came back tonight. So I was like, ‘Yes!’”
The Emmy Award-winning choreographer also gave us some insight into what it was like creating a massive world tour with Swift – including which of the routines are the singer’s favorite to perform live.
“Ooh, I mean, she has told me she really loves ‘Vigilante [S–t],’ like, she really loves that one!” she said of the sexy, burlesque-style number involving chairs. “And I think she really enjoys doing ‘Willow,’ the kind of witchy one. She really likes that one too.”
“Dancing With the Stars” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+, with new episodes streaming on Hulu the following day.
