Susan Boyle revealed she suffered a stroke last year and had to regain her iconic voice.
The Scottish singer shared the news after taking the stage on “Britain’s Got Talent” Sunday with the West End cast of “Les Misérables” to sing “I Dreamed a Dream,” the song that made her a household name when she was a contestant on the show in 2009.
“It feels great,” Boyle, 62, responded when hosts Dec Donnelly and Ant McPartlin asked how it felt to return. “It is extra special for me actually because last April … I suffered a minor stroke.
“I have fought like crazy to get back on stage,” she continued. “And I have done it.”
After her comeback performance, “BGT” creator and judge Simon Cowell shared some words of encouragement for Boyle.
“Susan, we owe you so much, and I knew you weren’t well, but if anyone was going to come back, you were going to come back because it wouldn’t be the same without you,” he said.
Following her performance, Boyle took to Instagram to share more details about her health scare.
“Tonight I had the privilege of returning to @bgt and performing with the wonderful cast of @lesmizofficial,” she captioned a carousel of snaps on Instagram from her TV return.
“This evening was even more special for me as in April of 2022 I had a stroke. For the past year I have worked so hard to get my speech and singing back, with the sole aim of being able to sing on stage again & tonight my hard work & perseverance paid off, singing the song that started it all, ‘I Dreamed A Dream.'”
Fans filled Boyle’s comments section with supportive messages.
