Kailyn Lowry shared with fans how she and boyfriend Elijah Scott initially mixed up the sexes of their twin babies.
The “Teen Mom 2” alum posted a TikTok video Monday, explaining how she went from thinking she was having twin boys to realizing she was instead having a boy and a girl.
“So when I first found out I was pregnant with twins, we did the NIPT non-invasive testing. I want to say this is between nine and ten weeks, or eight and ten weeks,” the reality star began.
However, Lowry later learned that the noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) — which typically detects genetic abnormalities — can be confusing when trying to decipher the sexes of fraternal twins.
“So this is a little lesson for anyone who is finding out when they’re pregnant with twins. If they are fraternal and there [are] boy-girl twins, only the boy chromosomes will show up at the test,” she said.
once the couple went in for their 20-week anatomy scan, they were able to confirm that they were having a boy and a girl.
The soon-to-be mother of seven also explained that she had to “re-do” her original smoke bomb sex reveal after one of the smoke bombs — the pink one — didn’t “go off.”
She jokingly referred to the failed reveal as “a complete Kail and the chaos, couldn’t make that s—t up” moment.
As previously reported, Lowry, 31, posted a video to Instagram last week after receiving an email with her results for the NIPT blood test.
Despite announcing that the babies were boys, Lowry teased in the caption that the results weren’t as they seemed.
“In typical Kail + the Chaos fashion, we have to break this into a 3-part mini-series
