Teresa Giudice owes the US government a substantial amount of money in back taxes — but the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star is well aware of her debts, Pvnew has learned.
Her attorney James J. Leonard Jr. tells us exclusively Thursday that his client knows she has outstanding balances and is proactively working to pay her dues.
“Ms. Giudice has been aware of her tax obligations for years and makes significant timely monthly payments towards her outstanding tax liabilities and will continue to do so until those liabilities do not exist,” the NJ-based lawyer says.
According to court documents obtained by Pvnew, Giudice, 53, was notified on May 3 that she has a new tax lien for more than $17,000.
The reality star appears to have an unpaid balance of $14,611.41 for the 2020 tax year and $2,449.91 for the 2021 tax year, per the records.
The Sun was first to report the news of the new tax lien.
However, a source tells Pvnew that particular lien has been settled with the IRS but debts from 2014 and 2015 — totaling close to $500,000 — are the only ones still active and in the process of repayment.
Giudice has faced legal trouble in the past for unpaid taxes, among other financial issues.
In March 2014, the Bravolebrity — and her then-husband Joe Giudice — pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges, including bankruptcy fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud and failure to pay taxes.
The former couple admitted they hid assets from bankruptcy creditors and submitted phony loan applications to get some $5 million in mortgages and construction loans.
Teresa was then sentenced to 15 months in prison in October of that year.
“I fully take responsibility for my actions,” the mother of four said before the court at the time. “I deeply love my family … My four daughters are my life.”
Teresa was released from prison in December 2015 but less than a year later was hit with a reported debt of $261,000 in unpaid taxes.
“For the last few months we have been in contact with the appropriate agencies regarding the outstanding tax liabilities,” the Giudice family attorney explained to Pvnew at the time.
“We were able to negotiate a repayment schedule that allows Teresa to make payments towards the taxes that are in arrears while staying current with [what] she owes moving forward. Several payments have already been made and every penny owed will be paid pursuant to the agreement.”
Teresa then divorced Joe, 51, in September 2020 after 20 years of marriage and four daughters together Gia, 22, Gabriella, 19, Milania, 17 and Audriana, 13.
In 2022, the “Turning the Tables” author sold the NJ mansion the exes shared for $2 million, as Joe was deported due to his crimes.
Teresa now resides in a $3.3 million property with her new husband, Luis Ruelas, whom she wed in August 2022, and their respective kids.
