Harrison Ford says his Hollywood dominance hindered his ability to be a good dad.
The actor admitted to Esquire in a summer 2023 cover story published Wednesday that he could “probably be a better parent” if he had a “less successful” career.
“Certainly the more constant gardener is the better parent,” the 80-year-old “Indiana Jones” star explained. “I’ve been out of town, up my own ass, for most of my life.”
Ford noted that he accepts and owns his “flaws and failures,” but refuses to go to therapy, which wife Calista Flockhart still gives him “s–t” for.
“I do take mental health seriously,” he clarified. “I was trying to say, as I explained to her: It’s that I accommodate all of the flaws that people go to psychiatrists to accommodate, because I accept my flaws.”
Ford adopted Flockhart’s now-22-year-old son, Liam, when he and the actress wed in 2010.
The “Star Wars” star also shares sons Benjamin, 55, and Willard, 54, with ex-wife Mary Marquardt, as well as son Malcolm, 35, and daughter Georgia, 32, with late screenwriter Melissa Mathison.
Ford and Flockhart, 58, were on hand to support Liam as he graduated from Amherst College over the weekend.
The couple have been together since 2002, with Flockhart telling Closer Weekly in 2017 that she considers their age gap a “non-issue” that she often “forget[s]” about.
“The truth is, I sometimes feel very much older than Harrison,” the “Brothers & Sisters” alum told the mag. “Sometimes, I even say, ‘Wow, I keep forgetting that he’s 22 years older than me.’ It doesn’t factor into our relationship at all.”
