As California braces for a significant reopening for vaccinated citizens, a new live music experience is popping up at Los Angeles’ South Coast Botanic Garden.
The DiscOasis, an interactive playground of roller-disco and performance art, is launching with Grammy-winning curator Nile Rodgers. The event will run from July 16 through Labor Day at the landmark, located in the Palos Verdes Hills.
Guests will roll alongside civilians and professional skaters in a glittery explosion built to celebrate the communal experience, with additional dance and art installations on the grounds. The event is presented by Constellation Immersive, an affiliate of agency CAA.
Rodgers is a certified disco king, counting classic songs like “Le Freak,” “Everybody Dance,” and “He’s The Greatest Dancer.”
“The DiscOasis is a dream come true for me. People know and love to dance to my songs, what they may not know is that I’ve been a skater all my life and I love to roller disco! I can remember the first time I ever walked into a disco and saw people from every walk of life put their troubles, prejudices and differences aside in the name of love and dance. It was the perfect place and we look to create that same spirit,” Rodgers said.
Thao Nguyen, co-head of Constellation Immersive, added that the event was “not only a new outdoor sonic experience, it is a movement to bring collective joy, healing and positivity to our communities.”
The event will benefit the We Are Family Foundation, a not-for-profit organization co-founded by Rodgers and dedicated to the vision of a global family by creating programs that promote cultural diversity while nurturing and mentoring the vision, talents and ideas of young people who are positively changing the world.
