This Barbie is on the cover of Vogue.
Margot Robbie donned her best pink dress to cover the summer 2023 issue of Vogue, wearing a satin Versace gown covered in flowers as she opens up about this summer’s highly anticipated “Barbie” movie.
The 32-year-old actress — who plays the titular role in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming flick about the iconic doll — wears a series of Barbie-esque outfits for the magazine’s shoot ranging from a pink tweed “President Barbie” Chanel dress to a metallic gold Proenza Schouler and an astronaut’s helmet.
Despite playing the famous doll in the movie, which hits theaters July 21, Robbie actually admitted to Vogue that she doesn’t know if she even owned a Barbie growing up.
“I don’t think I did,” she told the mag. “I know my cousin had a bunch of Barbies, and I’d go to her house.”
The Australian-born actress — who poses in a very Barbie pink-and-black polka dot Valentino dress in one pic — both produces and stars in the movie, having secured the film rights from Mattel.
“It wasn’t that I ever wanted to play Barbie, or dreamt of being Barbie, or anything like that,” she told Vogue. “This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project.”
As for the doll’s sexy outfits, which include a tight neon rollerskating ensemble and a pink cowgirl set, the Chanel ambassador got introspective about what it meant for her character.
“I’m like, Okay, she’s a doll. She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs. If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs,” the “Wolf of Wall Street” actress said.
Continuing that Barbie probably wouldn’t “feel sexual desire” because she doesn’t possess the necessary equipment, Robbie said, “She is sexualized. But she should never be sexy. People can project sex onto her.”
At the end of the day, it’s all about girl power for the “Babylon” star.
“Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wanted you to see her butt.”
