She’s a princess in plaid.
Kate Middleton debuted a new Burberry jacket and cropped flares as she headed to Scotland with Prince William on Thursday, departing from her recent wardrobe of trouser suits in the autumnal look.
The Princess of Wales, 41, looked ready for a day of outdoorsy activities as she joined the Prince of Wales, 41, at Outfit Moray, a charity that helps give confidence to young people through outdoor adventures.
She certainly dressed the part for their visit, wearing a comfy navy turtleneck and a quilted green Burberry barn jacket as the couple took part in activities like mountain biking.
The coat, which is a past-season piece (a similar version with flap pockets is available for $1,350) features a contrasting black collar and shiny gold buttons, and she pinned a red poppy brooch above her heart to mark Remembrance Day in the UK this month.
She teamed her new coat with a dark-wash pair of ankle-length flared jeans and the same lug-soled Reiss boots ($330) she wore for an outing with the Dadvengers group in London Wednesday.
Although the princess’ brown boots were a swift sellout, royal fans can still grab them in a black version.
Middleton topped her brown curls with a bike helmet, beaming as she went for a spin across a biking obstacle course with Prince William, who coordinated with his wife in a green jacket and navy chinos.
Although the British heritage brand seems like a natural choice for the Princess of Wales, she’s only worn Burberry outerwear on one other occasion over the years — and it was before she was even a royal — rocking a classic beige trench coat with a ruffled hem in March 2011.
Jackets aside, she owns just a few other Burberry pieces, including the tan button-up shirt she wore on a 2011 tour of Canada.
It was another 11 years before the royal brought out another Burberry outfit — and she seems to favor the designer’s green styles — with the mom of three wearing a green tartan dress on a December 2022 visit to Boston and a green trouser suit and pussybow blouse this year.
As for yesterday’s engagement, the Princess of Wales wore another casual look to meet with a dads’ group in North London, wearing a navy-and-white Breton-striped sweater with an old favorite Barbour jacket.
She departed from her favorite skinny denim silhouette with another pair of ankle-length jeans, this time from celeb-loved brand Mother ($228), a label also beloved by Meghan Markle.
With plenty of royal fashion moments ahead, including a state banquet with South Korea this month, we can’t wait to see what the princess surprises us with next.
