Selma Blair is finally ready to get back into the dating scene.
In a profile published by Glamour Wednesday, the “Cruel Intentions” actress, 51, revealed she feels optimistic about dating again after putting her love life on pause for the last five years while dealing with her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis.
“What [being in love] does for your spirit—it’s nothing to take lightly,” she told the outlet. “It colors everything. I still believe if I’m just true to myself, that person will come into my life one day.”
“I think I deserve it and think I’m in a great place to show up as the best version of me. It’s the first time I have hope. And I could have never said that in my life before.”
In fact, Blair recently met a man at a friend’s birthday dinner that piqued her interest — yet she didn’t have the opportunity to exchange numbers with him.
“Something in this person inspired me to see myself differently by the way he looked at the world,” she explained. “Just from that brief meeting, I thought, I have something I didn’t know I did.”
However, the actress fears her disability might scare some people away.
“I think the ‘disability’ word … it just confuses people,” she added, joking, “Like, as if I don’t have a vagina.”
Blair also reflected on being in a “bad relationship” in the midst of her battle with MS that skewed her perception of romance.
“I didn’t realize how emotionally abusive and controlling they were, taking advantage of meeting me in a really vulnerable time,” she claimed. “I was convinced that’s what I deserved. When you’re in a rough spot, you can meet some opportunistic people. It’s really dangerous.”
Blair shares a 12-year-old son, Arthur, with ex Jason Bleick, whom she dated from 2010 until 2012.
She was also linked to Ronald Carlson in 2017. However, she ended up getting a restraining order against him in 2022 after he allegedly strangled her during an explosive fight.
Yet it’s not just the dating scene that Blair, who revealed last year that her health was getting “so much better,” is ready to jump back into.
The “Legally Blonde” actress has “such a f—king determination” to get back into acting after putting her career on the back burner for so many years.
“I still feel like I never really hit my stride with acting because after ‘Hellboy’ I was so sick that I really stepped away,” she said. “And because I wasn’t a huge star, no one came looking.”
The break helped Blair “realize” that she truly does “love acting.”
In fact, she has been experiencing “all those little-girl things you feel when you first come to Hollywood” again — the big dreams and clean slate.
While she admits that it might be an uphill battle, at this point there is nothing she can’t overcome.
