That’s just the way it makes them feel.
Janelle Monáe is the latest cover star of Rolling Stone magazine, posing topless for the photoshoot.
Monáe, 37, obscures her breasts with her fingers, wearing nothing but an elaborate gold headpiece from The Blonds and delicate Jacquie Aiche jewelry.
“I’m much happier when my titties are out and I can run around free,” she tells the magazine at the start of the interview, declaring that the departure from clothes is a hallmark of her new era of “liberation.”
The non-binary musician – who uses she/her and they/them pronouns – recently swapped black and white suits for more body-baring ensembles.
“Even when I was really, really wearing only suits, I was either in a suit or you would find me at my own parties naked. It was no in-between,” the Grammy nominee told Rolling Stone.
Inside the issue, the rest of the photoshoot was similarly scintillating, with Monáe wearing the same gold Chanel chain vest Margot Robbie recently wore to the brand’s fashion show — with nothing underneath — and a beautiful silver mesh flower top that barely covered their breasts.
After the music magazine shared the cover shots on Instagram, commenters weighed in.
“Rolling Porn should be the rename,” one person quipped. “Yo, I HATE THIS !!!!!” another yelled. “Over the past few years, she has been taking off more and more clothes. Why is it that the longer women stay in the industry the more clothes they take off.”
“But why does she have to be naked on the cover?” an upset commenter questioned. “What relevance do her boobs have to her skills or achievements? Just seems like a lame way of grabbing attention…”
The look, however, is just part of the star’s latest as they’ve been freeing the nipple all month.
On May 10, the “Lipstick Lover” singer shared a NSFW video emerging from a pool in a wet T-shirt with the word “PLEASURE” emblazoned on the front, causing a social media frenzy.
At the 2023 Met Gala, the “Pynk” singer hit the red carpet in a see-through hoop skirt, before stripping down and revealing a Thom Browne sequined bikini with pearl details.
Monáe hasn’t just been busy freeing the nipple; they’re releasing the upcoming album “The Age of Pleasure” on June 9.
