Sophia Bush has had a habit of pursuing actors throughout her relationship history.
From marrying Chad Michael Murray and Grant Hughes, to dating other former “One Tree Hill” co-stars James Lafferty and Austin Nichols, Bush clearly enjoys linking up with Hollywood studs.
But the actress veered away from the Hollywood crowd in recent years with Hughes and the October 2023 reveal that she’s dating retired US Women’s soccer player Ashlyn Harris.
Here’s a look back at all of Bush’s romantic partners.
Chad Michael Murray
Bush started dating Chad Michael Murray after meeting on set of “One Tree Hill,” which premiered in 2003.
A year later, Murray proposed to Bush and the duo tied the knot on April 16, 2005.
The pair remained married for just five months until announcing their separation.
Bushed filed for an annulment in February 2006, citing fraud, after rumors swirled that he cheated on her with Paris Hilton. But her petition was denied and the estranged couple was granted a divorce in December 2006.
The co-stars continued to work together on their CW drama until Murray left the show in 2009.
The exes exchanged barbs in 2018 when Bush told Andy Cohen her marriage to Murray was “not a thing [she] actually really wanted to do.”
The “A Cinderella Story” actor — who went on to marry wife Sarah Roemer in 2015 and welcome three children — fired back and called her comments “ludicrous.”
“Chad conducts himself in a completely professional manner and would never marry for any reason but love,” his rep told Pvnew at the time. “Thirteen years since his divorce from Sophia, he has a very happy family life with his wife and children. He has completely moved on and doesn’t feel the need to engage in this type of behavior.”
Nearly five years later, Bush reflected on their failed marriage during her appearance on the “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum” podcast.
“I was a very naive 21-year-old kid and that’s all there is to it,” Bush said in the October 2023 interview. “Lots of people do lots of stupid s–t before their prefrontal cortexes are fully formed — and they’re not until they’re 26. So you do the math on my timeline.”
Jon Foster
Bush had a brief romance with Jon Foster after they met on the set of the 2006 horror film “Stay Alive.”
The actress reportedly confirmed to Us Weekly in June 2008 that they broke up “a year ago” but were still “really good friends.”
“You can love somebody, and not be in love with them, and I think that was a really valuable lesson,” she told the website at the time. “We weren’t ready to get married, but it definitely doesn’t mean we don’t care about each other.”
James Lafferty
Bush decided date another co-worker when she entered into a relationship with “One Tree Hill” co-star James Lafferty in 2008.
Murray gave his stamp of approval and shared that he was happy for his ex despite having to work with them on the high school series.
“It’s one of those things where you grow up a lot faster. You’re put in a situation where you’re gonna deal with things right in your face. But I think [Sophia and I] are both professional and mature enough to get through it,” Murray told a CW local news affiliate at the time.
“And now it’s just easy. We’re just friends. And she’s got James, and James and I are friends. It’s just a little tight group in Wilmington.”
Their fling lasted for just one year and they split by 2009.
Lafferty married Alexandra Park in 2022 in Hawaii after four years of dating.
Austin Nichols
Third time’s not quite the charm. Bush also dated her other “OTH” co-star Austin Nichols, though they fell for each other before he joined the cast in 2008.
The “John Tucker Must Die” alum shared in 2010 that they had dated on and off for years.
“We had so many years of history prior to him coming to work on the show,” Bush told E! News in 2010.
“And I think someone taking a job and moving their life across the country to show you how much they care is pretty much the most romantic gesture that a person could make.”
They called it quits in February 2012, shortly after “OTH” wrapped.
Dan Fredinburg
Bush took a brief hiatus from dating men in the entertainment industry when she started seeing Google executive Dan Fredinburg in April 2013.
While their relationship only lasted 10 months, they remained on good terms after their split.
“They decided to end their relationship in February,” a source told People in August 2014. “When you see one another for 24 hours every four weeks, it’s impossible to maintain a romantic relationship. They weren’t able to spend the time together that was necessary to nurture that kind of relationship.”
Bush was heartbroken when Fredinburg tragically died in an avalanche on Mt. Everest that was caused by an earthquake in April 2015.
”I still don’t know what the words are. Magic. Friendship. Memories. Consciousness. Dimensions. Infinite. Break. Dance. Live. Believe. Do,” Bush wrote in an Instagram post while reflecting on their relationship on what would have been his 34th birthday in September 2015.
“So many. None are the one. They’re puzzle pieces but not the whole picture. What I do know is that you are missed. That you are still here. That you changed us, inspired us, pushed us, and guided us.”
Jesse Lee Soffer
Bush rebounded with her “Chicago P.D.” co-star Jesse Lee Soffer in 2014.
They only dated for a year before breaking up, and in a strange turn of events, Soffer moved on with Bush’s former “OTH” co-star Torrey DeVitto three years later.
Soffer confirmed he was seeing DeVitto in 2016, telling Us Weekly their relationship is “great” and “awesome.”
They reportedly split in 2019 after 8 months together.
Grant Hughes
Bush found love once again with Grant Hughes in 2020.
The pair first sparked dating rumors in May of that year and were engaged by August 2021.
