Kristin Cavallari revealed she once met up with an ex-boyfriend for coffee and he was arrested for a hit-and-run in the middle of their date.
“I had agreed to go meet someone for coffee,” she said of a wild 72 hours she spent in Los Angeles during Tuesday’s episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast.
While she didn’t confirm the identity of her ex, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that Cavallari was referring to comedian Jeff Dye, whom she briefly dated after ending things with husband Jay Cutler in 2020.
The “Hills” alum, 36, went on to explain that her ex asked to meet in Burbank, Calif., which is a 40-minute drive away from her Beverly Hills home.
“I text him when I’m two minutes away,” she said, adding that there was “no response.”
When she arrived at the coffee shop, Cavallari called Dye, 40, and said he answered “all disheveled” and claimed his alarm didn’t go off before saying that he would be there in 20 minutes.
“I’m like, ‘F–k you, I hate you,'” she recalled. “But I waited like a f–king idiot. So 20 minutes goes by and he walks in.”
The comedian told her that he was up drinking all night until 5:30 a.m. and offered an apology.
“I go, ‘Are you still drunk?’ Like, [he] reeked of alcohol,” she said. “And he was like, ‘Yeah, kind of.’ I’m like, ‘Ugh, whatever okay fine.'”
Cavallari recalled excusing his poor behavior because he was “hot” and “very sweet.”
As they waited after ordering their coffees, the “Laguna Beach” alum said that a police officer approached them.
“[The cop] comes up to us and he goes, ‘Did you guys drive here?’ And I go, ‘Yeah,’ and he goes, ‘Did you guys drive together?'”
Cavallari said that her ex was staying silent, so she told the officer that they didn’t drive together, after which the cop “pulls” her date out of the coffee shop.
“I can see the cops patting him down. Next thing you know, the handcuffs go on,” she said. “I’m like, ‘What the f–k is going on?'”
Three more cops showed up at the scene and put her date in the back of a police car before Cavallari asked what was going on.
“One of the police officers goes, ‘There was a report of a hit-and-run down the street and he matches the description of the guy,'” she said. “I’m like, ‘Oh my god!'”
The reality TV star said that her ex was so “nonchalant” and when she asked the cops if she could say bye to him, Dye just acted normal.
“I f–king book it. I’m like, ‘I’m getting out of here,'” she said, adding that he was “bats–t.”
The next day, Cavallari received a voice note from the “Better Late Than Never” alum where he told her, “‘Just got out of jail. That was crazy. Wow,’ adding, again, that he was acting like it was “just another day.”
“He was totally downplaying this like it’s nothing, so I wake up, send him a voice note like, ‘What happened? Did you get a DUI? Did you lose your license? What happened?'”
Cavallari said that her ex told her he hit a pole and wasn’t sure if he had a DUI after he “blew over the limit” and had a court date in a few weeks. He also sent her photos of his car, which was “totaled.”
“I go, ‘You’re lucky to be alive,'” she said, adding that the police report stated he actually hit a tree. “The whole thing is just, like, oh my God.”
But the “best part” for the mom of three was when he told her he’d still “love to get coffee.”
“I went, ‘No, I’m never going to see you ever again,'” she said. “The whole thing is just insane.”
While her date was arrested, her love life isn’t a total bust. Cavallari said she found some luck on the dating app Raya but said she’d save that story for her next podcast episode.
According to the Burbank PD’s police report, Dye was arrested and booked for fleeing the scene of a traffic collision and driving under the influence, Us Weekly /confirm/ied. The report noted that he hit a tree and fled on foot.
Reps for Cavallari and Dye did not immediately respond to Pvnew’s request for comment.
