Morgan Wallen has canceled six more weeks of tour dates after re-injuring his vocal cords.
The controversial country star took to his Instagram Tuesday afternoon to share “the bad news” he received Monday after visiting the Vanderbilt Voice Center in Nashville.
“After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida. And by the third one, I felt terrible,” he told his followers in a selfie-style video, going on to reveal the official diagnosis: vocal fold trauma.
Wallen, 29, said he was advised to “go on vocal rest for six weeks” and decided to follow doctors’ orders.
“They want me not to talk at all, but they said if I need to, it’s OK for something like this,” he explained of the verbal announcement.
The musician added that he recently – and “quietly” – tore his latissimus dorsi muscle while in Australia and would be using the downtime to recover from that, too.
Wallen assured his fans that he and his team were “working on rescheduling all the dates” of his canceled “One Night at a Time” shows and promised to keep everyone “updated.”
Due to the course of treatment he’s chosen to take, the Tennessee native explained that he would also be absent from upcoming music festival appearances as well as Wednesday’s Academy of Country Music’s Lifting Lives event and Thursday’s ACM Awards.
He’s hopeful he’ll be able to make it up to his fans “next year.”
“[My doctors] told me that if I do this the right way, that I’ll get back to 100 percent,” the “Sand In My Boots” singer shared. “And they also said that if I don’t listen and I keep singing then I permanently damage my voice.
“So for the longevity of my career, this is just the choice I have to make,” he lamented. “I hate it, but I love you guys, and I appreciate all the support that you always give me. I’ll see you soon, and I’ll be back better than ever. God bless you.”
Last week, Wallen made a defiant return to the stage after pulling the plug on an April 23 concert in Oxford, Miss., at the very last minute.
With 60,000 attendees ready to watch the “More Than My Hometown” crooner perform, the following message appeared on the venue’s screens: “Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately, Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight. Therefore, tonight’s show has been canceled. Please make your way safely to the stadium exits. Refunds for tonight’s event will be available at point of purchase.”
Though the father of one apologized for the unprecedented situation, an upset concertgoer still sued him for “other out-of-pocket expenses they incurred in connection with the concert cancellation, including transportation, lodging, food, merchandise sales, transaction fees and other such expenses.”
