Hoda Kotb remembers “begging” nurses to let her bathe daughter Hope during the 3-year-old’s recent hospitalization.
“I remember I was there, and I asked for a bath,” Kotb shared on Monday’s broadcast of the “Today” show.
“I wanted to give her a bath and they could only sponge her and I said, ‘Please, I’m begging you, I just want a bath for my child.’”
The media personality — who is also mom to daughter Haley Joy, 6 — said that the hospital staff graciously complied with her wish.
“And I remember they got this little plastic thing, and they put it in the shower and put Hope in it and I remembered, like, that tiny thing, but it was everything at the time,” she recalled.
“It was beautiful.”
Kotb spoke about her touching experience with co-host Jenna Bush Hager in commemoration of National Nurses Week.
“They knew at that moment,” the mom of two continued of the nurse who comforted her.
“Because a lot of what they do isn’t about giving the IV and the needles and the stuff and the tests and all those things. It’s more than that. It’s everything that they do.”
Kotb has not revealed the reason behind Hope’s hospitalization, though it forced her to take a few weeks off from “Today” in February to look after her little girl in the ICU.
However, the “I Really Needed This Today” author previously dubbed the ordeal “really scary.”
But today, Kotb is happy to report that Hope is “vibrant and brilliant,” raving that she is “over the moon” to have her youngest back at home.
