Katy Perry dissed Meghan Markle — and praised Kate Middleton — in a video that resurfaced after her performance at King Charles III’s coronation concert.
A reporter asked Perry about Markle’s Givenchy haute couture wedding dress during a May 2018 red carpet interview, to which the “American Idol” judge shadily replied with a wink, “I would’ve done one more fitting. Kate won.”
While many royal fans felt the Duchess of Sussex’s Claire Waight Keller-designed gown was timeless, others pointed out at the time that its bateau neckline made it seem loose compared to the Princess of Wales’ formfitting dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
However, Perry praised Markle elsewhere in the “Entertainment Tonight” interview.
“It’s amazing what she’s doing with all her humanitarian efforts,” she said at the time.
“You know, the fact that she’s a proud feminist, I love all that. So, I support her as another woman and love her and wish [Markle and Prince Harry] well.”
The pop star, 38, and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, have since become friends with Harry, 38, and the “Suits” alum, 41, who quit their royal duties in January 2020 and moved to Montecito, Calif.
“Two days ago, Orlando Bloom sent me a message because he’s just down the road,” the prince told Dax Shepard on the “Armchair Expert” podcast in May 2021, noting that the two couples were neighbors.
“And we sort of keep in contact because of the paparazzi.”
Perry’s shady remarks made the rounds again online shortly after she performed her hits “Roar” and “Firework” outside Windsor Castle on Sunday following Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation.
She and Lionel Richie also filmed a video with the newly crowned king and queen for “American Idol.”
Charles, 74, commended Richie, 73, and Perry on their “brilliant” and “wonderful” performances, respectively, while Camilla, 75, called the concert “absolutely fantastic.”
