John Stamos claims he was sexually abused by a former babysitter and would play “dead” in order to get her to stop.
The “Full House” alum said the memories of the alleged abuse only came back to him while he was writing his upcoming memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me,” out Oct. 24.
“I remembered it slightly,” the actor, 60, explained to People Wednesday. “It has always been there, but I packed it away as people do, right?”
While “it was always in the back” of his head, Stamos had previously chalked the alleged incident up to “girls, man” and “didn’t tell” anybody about it.
“It was like you’re playing dead so they’ll stop,” he recalled. “But it wasn’t totally aggressive. I don’t know. It was not good.”
Stamos continued, “I was probably like 10 or 11 [at the time]. I shouldn’t have had to deal with those feelings.”
Although the former soap star wrote about the alleged abuse in his memoir, it was only “a page or something” because he “didn’t want the book to be” about that.
Stamos also didn’t want the focus of his tell-all to be about his marriage and divorce from Rebecca Romijn — but he did speak to People about their “shattering” split.
“I just hated her,” the “Grandfathered” alum admitted of his ex. “I couldn’t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life.”
While he considered the actress to be “the devil” after they called it quits, Stamos later came to terms with being just “as much to blame” in their marriage’s demise.
He and Romijn have rarely spoken of their breakup since separating in 2004, finalizing their divorce the following year and moving on with Caitlin McHugh and Jerry O’Connell, respectively.
However, the actress admitted that she “miss[es] … a lot of things about” Stamos during a May 2022 episode of “The Talk.”
Romijn said, “Divorce feels like a failure … and there were a lot of things that I had to let go of that were very sad. I have a lot of really fun memories.”
She recalled having recently spotting him in a parking lot, but Stamos clarified on Wednesday that he hasn’t spoken to his ex-wife since a meeting with their divorce lawyers.
