Britney Spears ‘became a robot’ during 13-year conservatorship: ‘It was death to my creativity’

Britney Spears says she lost her spark after being placed under her 13-year conservatorship.

“I became a robot. But not just a robot — a sort of child-robot. I had been so infantilized that I was losing pieces of what made me feel like myself,” the pop star writes in her forthcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” according to an excerpt published by People Tuesday.

“The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child. I became more of an entity than a person onstage. I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me.”

Britney, 41, shares that she felt “like a shadow” of herself after losing control of her personal, medical and financial decisions to her estranged father, Jamie Spears, in 2008.

“It makes me feel sick,” she writes. “Think of how many male artists gambled all their money away; how many had substance abuse or mental health issues. No one tried to take away their control over their bodies and money. I didn’t deserve what my family did to me.”

The Grammy winner notes that while she “accomplished a lot” when she was “supposedly incapable of taking care” of herself, including releasing albums and performing a four-year Las Vegas residency, her inspiration began to fade over the years.

“The woman in me was pushed down for a long time,” she admits. “They wanted me to be wild onstage, the way they told me to be, and to be a robot the rest of the time.

“It was death to my creativity as an artist.”

Since a Los Angeles judge terminated her conservatorship in 2021, Britney has started making music again.

She released a duet with Elton John titled “Hold Me Closer” last year and a collaboration with her friend Will.i.am called “Mind Your Business” this summer.

Pvnew confirmed in August that the “Crossroads” star is also planning her first full album since 2016.

However, a source told us at the time that Britney was “focused” on her book, which hits stores on Oct. 24, before heading back to the studio.

“The beauty of Britney being free again is that she gets to call the shots for the first time in a very long time,” a second insider added.

“She’ll do it at her own pace.”
