Christina Applegate has to rely on a friend and a caretaker to raise her daughter, Sadie, as her multiple sclerosis worsens.
The “Dead to Me” star told Vanity Fair in an interview published Thursday that needing “able-bodied” people around her made her realize how much she “took for granted” beforehand.
“I have my friend who lives here during the week, and she helps me take care of Sadie,” she explained. “And then on the weekend I have a caretaker.”
Despite receiving assistance from others, Applegate, 51, admitted she does not want too many people in her home because it is “too much” for her and her nervous system.
“I like to keep it as quiet and as mellow as possible,” she explained. “It’s exhausting. Imagine just being in a crowd of people and how loud that is.
“It’s like 5,000 times louder for anyone who has lesions on their brains.”
The “Bad Moms” actress shared that she no longer has “good” days and instead experiences “little s–tty days.”
“There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted,” she reflected. “Going down the stairs, carrying things. It f–king sucks.”
Applegate said she is still able to drive — but only short distances. She also can carry food to her daughter, whom she shares with her husband, Martyn LeNoble, upstairs but “never down.”
The “Anchorman” star last appeared in public at the 2023 SAG Awards and said it would be her “last awards show.” For her grand finale, she walked the red carpet with a cane that read “FU MS.”
Applegate shared her MS diagnosis in August 2021.
“It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going,” she tweeted at the time. “Unless some a–hole blocks it.”
