Beauty is pain.
Kylie Jenner walked the Met Gala 2023 red carpet on Monday wearing a red-hot, one-armed gown by Haider Ackermann for Jean Paul Gaultier — and the designer had strict rules for the makeup mogul on the big night.
Jenner, 25, posted a YouTube video on Friday detailing her getting-ready process for the fashionable ball.
While she had a difficult time choosing which of her two custom looks to wear to the gala versus the afterparty, it wasn’t the hardest part of her prep.
“I would not like you to sit down,” Ackermann told Jenner at one of her final fittings. “And I would not like you to move this arm.”
“Got it. No moving,” responded Jenner with a laugh.
On the actual day of the fête, Jenner traveled from her hotel to the Met in a sprinter van, so she could stand the whole time and avoid wrinkling the design.
She held Ackermann’s hand to help balance herself during the drive.
“I mean, if I drop my coat, I can sit down?” Jenner asked at one point mid-journey, referring to the look’s built-in jacket that doubled as a train. “No?”
“No,” the Colombian-born designer /confirm/ied.
In the video, the mom of two also explained why she selected the red gown for the carpet and saved her stunning black one for the afterparty.
She also shared the inspiration behind her messy bun and spoke about the matte Kylie Cosmetics eyeshadow palette used to achieve her beauty look.
What she didn’t reveal, however, was whether her choice to attend the gala with Ackermann was tied to her rumored relationship with Timothée Chalamet; the actor is best friends with the designer and frequently wears his clothes for big events.
The Kar-Jenners are no strangers to suffering for the sake of fashion.
For the 2019 Met Gala, Kim Kardashian whittled her waist with a corset so tight, she took breathing lessons to prepare and was physically unable to sit down during the night.
And in 2022, she lost nearly 20 pounds in a few short weeks in order to squeeze into Marilyn Monroe’s gown, as the iconic museum piece could not be altered.
