Al Roker found out the sex of his future grandchild despite “want[ing] to be surprised” — so now he’s spilling the beans.
The “Today” show weatherman revealed to Entertainment Tonight Wednesday that his daughter Courtney Roker is pregnant with a baby girl.
After telling the outlet about his upcoming “granddaughter,” the 68-year-old tried to walk back his admission and say instead that he has a “grandchild” on the way.
Al clarified that he didn’t even “want to know” the baby’s sex in the first place but found out via text.
“[Courtney sent] me a sonogram picture and I said, ‘That baby looks just like you,’ and she said, ‘Doesn’t she?'” the journalist recalled. “And then you see the bubbles.
“[She wrote], ‘I’m so sorry!'” the Daytime Emmy winner continued. “And I went, ‘You had one [job]!'”
He laughed, concluding, “I wanted to be surprised.”
Courtney and husband Wesley Laga’s first child is due in June, three months after they revealed the news via Instagram.
“A new adventure is about to begin,” the expectant star captioned the March upload, alongside baby bottle and heart emojis.
“Here we go! So very very happy!!!!!” Al commented, with his wife, Deborah Roberts, sharing her own “excite[ment].”
The NBC personality celebrated his growing family on the “Today” show the following day, saying he wants to be called “Pop Pop.”
“Deborah is still not quite sure about the grandma thing, but we’re very excited,” he joked at the time. “It still hasn’t quite sunken in.”
Al adopted Courtney in 1987 with his then-wife, Alice Bell. Since their 1994 divorce, the “Roker on the Road” star has moved on with Deborah Roberts and welcomed two children — daughter Leila, 24, and son Nick, 20.
