There will soon be a new way to collect Pokémon cards and battle fellow trainers.

“Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket,” a brand new app game that innovates the traditional, physical card-collecting, will launch worldwide on Oct. 30. Fans can preregister for the game in the App Store and Google Play.

In “Pokémon TCG Pocket,” players can open two booster packs per day and collect digital cards that boast special visual effects and nostalgic illustrations that can only be found in the app. There’s also a battling mode that allows players to simulate the physical trading card game that has grown in popularity over “Pokémon’s” 28 years of existence. After the 2024 Pokémon World Championships, the company also announced the return of popular Trainer’s Cards to the trading card game. In the past, specialized cards, like Misty’s Starmie, Rocket’s Scyther and Brock’s Onix, paid homage to popular characters from the “Pokémon” anime and video games. Next year will see the return of the Trainer’s Cards format, including Lillie’s Clefairy EX, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl EX, N’s Zoroark EX and N’s Reshiram. The new trailer also teased the return of cards inspired by the villainous Team Rocket.

“Pokémon Go,” the popular app game where players walk around to catch and battle Pokémon, is getting an update with a new type of battle that allows certain creatures to transform by using a charged attack. A new Generation 8 Pokémon, the electric-dark type Morpeko will also join the game soon. “Pokémon Unite,” the multiplayer online battle arena game, is adding Armarouge, Darkrai and Psyduck as playable characters to the roster. There’s also a new type of battle format in the works, where trainers must defeat wild Pokémon and their opponents to reach 500 points to win.

Next year’s Pokémon World Championships will take place in Anaheim, California from Aug. 15-17, 2025. The following World Championships will then be hosted in San Francisco from Aug. 28-30, 2026.
