Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver’s Point Grey Pictures has entered into a first-look deal with Lionsgate Television.
News of the deal comes just after it was announced production has begun on the Apple TV+ series “The Studio.” The show, which is set at a legacy Hollywood movie studio, is produced by Point Grey and Lionsgate TV with Rogen set to star as well as write, direct, and executive produce alongside Goldberg. Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara, and Bryan Cranston are also among the show’s cast.
“Seth, Evan and James are the masters of subversive, renegade humor who make coming to work both fun and funny every single day,” said Lionsgate Television Group chair and chief creative officer Kevin Beggs. “From ‘The Boys’ to ‘Sausage Party,’ they are true trendsetters with their fingers on the pulse of what’s funny in entertainment. We began shooting their hilarious, wildly inventive half-hour comedy for Apple TV+ and can hardly wait to see what they do next.”
Point Grey and Lionsgate TV also previously collaborated on the Peacock true crime limited docuseries “Paul T. Goodman,” which debuted in January 2023. The studio and the company also entered into a multi-platform deal in 2019.
“Kevin, Sandra Stern and Scott Herbst are great partners who support our creative vision, have relationships with every platform in the world and still laugh at all of our jokes. Who could ask for more?” said Rogen, Goldberg and Weaver. “We look forward to continuing to push the creative envelope with them.”
Ashley Morales negotiated the deal on behalf of Lionsgate Television.
Point Grey most recently produced the animated film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” with Rogen and Goldberg co-writing the script with Jeff Rowe. The company’s current slate also includes the highly-popular Amazon Prime Video series “The Boys” and the spinoff “The Boys: Gen V.” PvNew previously reported that another spinoff set in Mexico is also in the works.
Previously, Point Grey produced shows like “Future Man,” “Black Monday,” and “Preacher,” and has produced films such as “Blockers,” “Good Boys,” “Neighbors,” and “Sausage Party.” In January, it was announced that Point Grey had signed a first-look film deal with Universal Pictures.
