The “Dead Boy Detectives” series has set its premiere date at Netflix.
The series will debut globally on the streamer on April 25. based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, “Dead Boy Detectives” Season 1 consists of eight episodes.
George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri star as the titular detectives, with Kassius Nelson, Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Yuyu Kitamura, Ruth Connell, Lukas Gage, and David Iacono also starring in the series.
The official description of the series states: “Meet Edwin Payne (Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Revri), ‘the brains’ and ‘the brawn’ behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts… who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Nelson) and her friend Niko (Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.”
The show is set in “The Sandman” universe at Netflix, as both are based on characters created by Gaiman. “Dead Boy Detectives” was originally ordered to series at Max in 2022 before moving over to Netflix in 2023.
Steve Yockey developed “Dead Boy Detectives” for television, wrote the first episode, and serves as executive producer and co-showrunner. Beth Schwartz also serves as executive producer and co-showrunner. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive produce via Berlanti Productions along with Gaiman and Jeremy Carver. Warner Bros. Television is the studio. The first episode is directed and executive produced by Lee Toland Krieger.
