Miley Cyrus’ Plane Struck by Lightning, Forced to Make Emergency Landing Ahead of Concert

Miley Cyrus was originally set as a headliner for the Asuncionico music festival in Paraguay on Wednesday, but dangerous weather conditions resulted in her plane being struck by lightning and forced to make an emergency landing. The singer was unable to fly into the country, and the Asuncionico festival was later canceled on Wednesday due to the unforeseen weather.

“To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción. Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting. My crew, band, friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing. We were unfortunately unable to fly into Paraguay. I LOVE YOU,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram. She posted a short video of a lightning strike illuminating the dark sky outside the airplane window and a photo of damage sustained to the plane.

Cyrus was the Wednesday headliner, and other performers included Jane’s Addiction and Jhay Cortez. On Tuesday, which was paused and later canceled due to the weather, the Foo Fighters were supposed to headline. Doja Cat and Machine Gun Kelly were also on Tuesday’s lineup. All of the artists had performed at Lollapalooza Argentina just a few days before from March 18-20. On March 26, Cyrus is scheduled to headline Lollapolooza Brazil, and the Foo Fighters take the stage the next day.

On Wednesday morning, Asuncionico announced that it was canceling the entire festival out of safety precautions after the thunderstorms and heavy rain. The organization said the music festival would return in 2023.
