Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has picked up North American VOD rights to comedic crime thriller “City of Love.”
The film, directed by Èric Boadella, follows troubled ex-con Spencer, who drives for a ridesharing company in Los Angeles after forging the registration of his old red Chevy. He tries to reconnect with the world he lost after spending 20 years in jail for murdering his stepfather, but the more he drives, a string of bad experiences with his passengers leaves him feeling only more disconnected. When he falls in love with a passenger whose life eerily resembles that of his late mother, Spencer goes to dangerous and unnecessary lengths to protect her. As the tension escalates, Spencer finds himself entangled in a web of danger, love, and the unexpected.
“I always wanted to make a movie about an antihero type of character becoming a rideshare driver,” Boadella shared in a statement. “Our protagonist is an isolated man in the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles, who against the odds becomes the city’s hero by shedding light on victims of the healthcare system.”
Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire the project with Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
“City of Love” will be available to rent or own on all digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms in North America, as well as on DVD, starting Dec. 19 through Freestyle Digital Media.
