Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has picked up North American theatrical and VOD rights to “America’s Family.”
The immigrant docudrama, written, directed by and starring Anike Tourse, follows the events of an ICE raid of the Diaz family on Thanksgiving day.
“As each family member braves their way through the crisis, they discover unexpected reserves of love, faith, and the restorative resilience of community. The Diaz family discovers supporters on both sides of the border, standing by their side and championing their quest to be together,” reads a description of the film provided to PvNew.
“I’m pleased that this collaboration of professional artists, community members and activists has created a story that inspires people to connect emotionally across race, across nationality, and across borders. It’s exciting to me that ‘America’s Family is doing that with audiences everywhere,” Tourse said in a statement.
When the pic made its global premiere at Dances with Films last year, it won both the Audience Award for Narrative Features and the Grand Jury Award for Narrative Features.
The film is co-produced by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) in partnership with Mixed Operations.
“There is power in telling our stories from the perspective of those who live those experiences,” CHIRLA executive director Angelica Salas, who is also an executive producer for the film, shared in a statement. “Immigrants in the United States are making history every day, but their extraordinary contributions and life stories are often disregarded as too ordinary to bring to the big screen. We’re proud to have Freestyle join us in bringing ‘America’s Family’ to the screen. With this theatrical and digital release, we aim to touch hearts and minds and keep fighting until no family is torn apart by America’s cruel and unjust immigration laws.”
Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire “America’s Family” with Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films and Elliot Gipson of Elliot Gipson PC.
“America’s Family” makes its limited theatrical debut on Nov. 12. It will be available to rent or own on all digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms in North America, as well as on DVD and Blu Ray, on Dec. 5, through Freestyle Digital Media.
