Prime Video has released the trailer for its adaptation of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The series will launch all eight episodes on Feb. 2.
Drawing from the 2005 film of the same name, the series sees the two actors take on the roles originated by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The series’ description reads, “Meet TheSmiths: Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their lives and identities to be thrown together as partners – both in espionage and in marriage.”
Along with starring, Glover also produces the series, marking his latest project with Prime Video following the satirical comedy horror series “Swarm.” He co-created “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” alongside Francesca Sloane. In addition to Glover and Erskine, the series also stars Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Cole, John Turturro and Paul Dano.
Hiro Murai, who has collaborated with Glover before on “Guava Island” and the music video for “This is America,” is the director of the first two episodes.
While Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally attached to the role of Jane Smith, it was announced in 2021 that Maya Erskine, known for co-creating starring in the comedy series “PEN15,” would take over the part. Erskine has also acted in the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” the comedy series “Man Seeking Woman” and the romantic comedy “Plus One.”
