Music Industry Moves: Tempo Makes Undisclosed Investment in Twenty One Pilots’ Tyler Joseph’s Catalog

Tempo Music Investments has made an undisclosed investment in the catalog of Twenty One Pilots singer-songwriter Tyler Joseph. According to the announcement, the investment includes such songs as “Stressed Out,” “Ride” and “Heathens,” and “strikes a strategic alliance with Tyler and long-term manager, Chris Woltman, working alongside Tempo on other potential investments.”

Joseph said, “The passion from the Tempo team around the idea of these songs, as well as the long-term strategy of their vision, is powerful for a songwriter. I look forward to working with Josh Empson, the team at Tempo, along with Warner Chappell, as we uncover new ways todrivediscovery of these songs.”

Tempo, which launched in 2019 and is funded by Providence Equity Partners in partnership with Warner Music Group, also invested in copyrights by Wiz Khalifa, Florida Georgia Line, songwriter-producers Jeff Bhasker andShane McAnallyandothers.

+ Round Hill Music Royalty Fund Limited has acquired a 50% interest in a music publishing catalog from Yes guitarist and film score composer Trevor Rabin. The catalog of 3,528 film cues and songs covers tracks from across Rabin’s expansive career as a songwriter and film score composer, including songs like the 1984 No. 1 single “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” theme songs from “NBA on TNT” and “Inside the NBA” and films such as “Armageddon,” “Enemy of the State,” “Bad Boys II,” “National Treasure,” and many more. The acquisition includes the publisher’s share and writer’s share of the relevant copyright interests, as well as administrative control enabling Round Hill to control the sync licensing of the catalog rights.

Rabin said, “Round Hill is well known in our industry from their decade of stewardship in managing some of the most important music catalogues. I know my music will be in good hands with their leading team of industry professionals who are so passionate about this catalog.”

+ Writer-producer management company HallwoodMedia has hired Andy Steinway as senior VP, who brings Grammy-winning songwriterJozzy (Pharrell Williams, 21 Savage, Lil Wayne, Coldplay, Lil Nas X) to the company with. him. Steinway also manages artist-songwriter Raissa, who is signed to Mark Ronson’s Zelig Music andColumbia Records. Hallwood’s roster includes Jeff Bhasker,Murda Beatz,David Stewart,IAmTashand others.

+ Data analytics and business intelligence company Chartmetric has named Andreas Katsambas president of strategy, marketing & operations. He was most recently an executive VP at BMG, and in 2000 founded the New York-based label The End Records, which released music by the Lemonheads, Badly Drawn Boy and the Zombies. The label was acquired byBMGin 2016, and Katsambas transitioned to an executive role atBMGwhile maintaining his CEO position with The End.

+ Shavone Charles, formerly of Instagram and Twitter, has launched a new organization called Future Of Creatives to “amplify underrepresented creators in music, tech and entertainment.” The organization will launch with a photo project and community series with Puma. According to the announcement, FOC is “a tech-minded multidisciplinary creative group coalition and community platform that seeks to elevate the stories of underrepresented creatives across tech, entertainment, contemporary art and fashion, as well as drive equitable career development for next-gen creatives and people of color working in creative disciplines that need more equitable representation.”

SoundExchange has appointed Stephanie Werner to Vice President, Brand Marketing and Industry Engagement. Additionally, Barry LeVine will become Vice President, Marketing and Entertainment Partnerships. Both will form part of the company’s newly expanded corporate affairs group based in New York and will report to Esther-Mireya Tejeda, the company’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.

CAA has signed singer, songwriter, rapper and producer Belly in all areas worldwide. Raised in Canada, the nativePalestinian has credits on hits by Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, with whom he collaborated on half the tracks from the album “After Hours,” including the eight-times-platinum “Blinding Lights.”

Belly’s current single, “Better Believe,” features The Weeknd and Young Thug and it video has logged nearly 10 million views on YouTube.

The winner of nine SOCAN songwriter awards, including songwriter of the year, Belly is managed by Wassim “Sal” Slaiby of SALXCO and is signed to XO via Republic and Roc Nation.

+ Live Nation announced the opening lineup to new Houston venue, 713 Music Hall. Named for the city’s area code, its grand opening will feature a performance from Willie Nelson & Family on November 17. Additional bookings include RÜFÜS DU SOL, Evanescence and Erasure, among others.

+Arista Nashville has signed singer Morgan Wade, who released her positively received debut album, “Reckless,” earlier this year.Wade will join Lucero for the band’s fall tour. She is represented by Hillpeople Artist Management and WME.

+ Capitol CMG has signed 24-year-old singer and songwriter Kevin Quinn and will release his debut single, “Wildfire,” and an accompanying music video on Aug. 13. the first with Capitol CMG, on August 13. Quinn is managed by Gabriel Vasquez of Vasquez Entertainment, with theatrical representation by the Kohner Agency and Velocity Entertainment Partners.
