‘Emily in Paris’ Star Ashley Park Hospitalized for Critical Septic Shock, Now Recovering: ‘I’m Safely on the Other Side of the Worst’

Ashley Park announced on Instagram that she is recovering from a bout of illness that hospitalized her for the first few weeks of 2024.

The “Emily in Paris” star wrote that while on vacation in December she developed tonsillitis, which “spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs.”

“I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told,” Park wrote in a caption accompanying photos of her hooked up to tubes and IVs in a hospital bed.

The actor, who most recently appeared in the “Mean Girls” movie musical, went on to thank her husband, Paul Forman, for “being unconditionally by my side through all this.”

Park wrote, “You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know. I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.”

She then thanked her doctors and ICU nurses, as well as the team from the Joali Being resort in the Maldives, “for responding immediately and staying with me to provide language translations and vital support.” Park also acknowledged her “personal team of heroes at home” who dealt with her insurance.

“I hesitated to share what’s been happening as I’m still in the throes of recovery … but I now know I’m safely on the other side of the worst,” Park added. “Thanks for reading this. Im sorry for being so absent recently to so much and to people in my life. I love you all. I’m healing and I promise I’m gonna be okay.”

In 2023, Park was seen in “Joy Ride,” Season 3 of “only Murders in the Building” and “Beef.” Season 4 of Netflix’s “Emily in Paris” is currently in production, though its unclear if or how Park’s hospitalization affected filming.

Park’s “Emily in Paris” co-star Lily Collins commented on her photos, “I can hardly look at these without crying. I love you sister and I’m forever grateful you’re on the other side of this and for [Paul] for your incredibly huge heart and for being there every step of the way. I cannot wait to hug you both.”

Glen Powell wrote, “So sorry to hear this. Sending you love and strength,” and Sara Bareilles added, “Oh buddy!! Love you and wishing you health and healing.” Several more celebrities, including Jamie Chung, Natasha Bedingfield and Ken Jeong, also chimed in with words of support.
