Twitter is opening applications for creators to test out the first features that will let them earn money on the platform — and it’s promising to give them a very generous split.

On Tuesday, the social network began accepting separate applications for Super Follows (which let creators sell subscriptions with special perks) and Ticketed Spaces (paid audio chat rooms) for users to have the chance to be part of the test period for the paid offerings before they’re introduced more widely.

Twitter will let creators keep 97% of the revenue they generate from Super Follows or Ticketed Spaces. But there are a few caveats. First, the 97% split comes after in-app purchase fees — both Apple’s App Store and Google Play charge a 30% fee. In addition, Twitter’s 3% cut of creator revenue will be in effect until an individual user makes $50,000 in lifetime earnings, at which point Twitter will take 20%.

According to Twitter senior product manager Esther Crawford, the company “updated our revenue share cuts after spending more time thinking about how we could support emerging voices on Twitter,” she wrote in athread. “Our goal is to elevate people driving the conversations on Twitter and help them earn money.”

As for why Twitter set the $50,000 threshold before it starts taking 20% of revenue, Crawford wrote, “Earning $50K+ from Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces shows that you’re getting value from these features and that they’re helping you make real [money emoji].”

Creators may apply to both Ticketed Spaces (available on iOS and Android) and Super Follows (iOS only). For now, the applications are open only to those in the U.S. and the features are available only on mobile apps.

For Super Follows, Twitter is allowing creators to set three different monthly price points: $2.99, $4.99 or $9.99 per month. Creators can offer any kind of subscriber-only bonus content and/or interactions.

Ticketed Spaces provides a way to offer exclusive live audio experiences in Twitter Spaces, the company’s recently launched Clubhouse-style feature. Creators can set the ticket price as low as $1 and as high as $999 per event. In addition, creators who host Ticketed Spaces can set the limit on how many people can attend each event.
