Gigi Gorgeous is getting into the podcast game.
Next week, the social-media star, TV personality and transgender activist is launching “Queerified,” a weekly podcast cohosted with her longtime best friend Marc Lamentac, also known as Mimi, in a premiere timed for Pride Month. Gigi (above left) and Mimi will discuss topics including what it was like growing up queer; the successes and lessons of life; and how to celebrate queer joy every day. “Queerified” also will feature special guests in the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond.
“On ‘Queerified,’ I wanted to start a conversation that is empowering, entertaining and humorous, having an open dialogue about the issues and experiences that made me the person I am today,” Gigi Gorgeous said in a statement.
The podcast’s producers have set up a toll-free hotline (in the U.S.) for listeners to offer feedback and leave comments for Gigi and Mimi, at 844-QUEERYS (844-783-3797). “This is totally a space that’s safe for you,” reads the description for their podcast.
The podcast comes from Ramble, the podcast network focused on influential tastemakers, which is a division of Cadence13 (itself owned by radio broadcaster and audio streaming company Audacy, formerly known as Entercom).
“Queerified” will launch next Wednesday, June 16. It will be available free to listen to on Audacy’s streaming platforms, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other podcast apps and websites. New episodes will be available on Wednesdays.
Gigi Gorgeous’s rise to stardom began in 2008 when she created her YouTube channel, posting beauty, fashion and makeup tutorial videos as a Toronto high school student, while also encouraging viewers to express themselves in the face of bullying and harassment. Gigi came out in a YouTube video at the age of 19 as a gay male and in 2013 announced that she was a transgender woman. In 2014, she legally changed her name to Gigi Loren Lazzarato. That year, she documented her transition on her YouTube channel, which laid the groundwork for feature-length documentary “This Is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous,” directed by Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple and distributed on YouTube’s subscription service.
In 2019, Gigi published her memoir “He Said, She Said: Lessons, Stories and Mistakes From My Transgender Journey” with Harmony Books, a division of Penguin Random House.
“Gigi has a larger-than-life personality, and an equally powerful voice as an activist,” said Chris Corcoran, chief content officer of Cadence13 and Ramble. “As Pride is celebrated around the world, we’re excited to welcome Gigi and Mimi to the Ramble and Cadence13 family.”
Gigi Gorgeous is repped by UTA, Select Management Group and Ashley Silver at law firm Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer, Silver & Thompson.
“It’s important that LGBTQIA+ voices and issues are given a platform,” said UTA emerging platforms agent A.J. Leone. “We’re confident that Ramble is the perfect home for Gigi’s debut audio project and are thrilled that she will have this forum to discuss an array of empowering topics.”
