After releasing on digital and on-demand last month, Martin Scorsese‘s star-studded crime epic “Killers of the Flower Moon” will finally be able to stream on Apple TV+ starting Jan. 12.
Stream: KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOONEven with its daunting three-and-a-half-hour runtime, the R-rated “Killers of the Flower Moon” has been embraced by moviegoers (landing an “A-” CinemaScore) and critics (92% on Rotten Tomatoes). Adapted from David Grann’s 2017 novel and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro, the story takes place amid the “Reign of Terror,” a period that refers to the mysterious murders that took place after major oil deposits were discovered on the Osage nation’s land in the early 1920s.
The film was met with immediate critical acclaim upon its debut at Cannes Film Festival. It was honored as the best feature of 2023 by the New York Film Critics Circle last week, and also received the Gotham Historical Icon and Creator Tribute at the Gotham Awards where it won best score. The film will likely receive a number of Oscar nominations, with many predicting a Best Actress nod for Lily Gladstone, Best Director and Best Picture recognition for Scorsese and Best Actor for Dicaprio, among others.
However, many critics also criticized the film’s lengthy runtime, with PvNew chief film critic Owen Gleiberman calling the film a “divisive movie” in his review and that it’s “more like love-it vs. it’s-too-long-and-is-somehow-missing-something.”
PvNew film critic Peter DeBruge agreed, writing in his review that “someone needs to stand up and tell Marty to rein it in” but that it’s “still a compelling true story.”
Stream “Killers of the Flower Moon” on Apple TV+ below starting Jan. 12 , or rent/purchase on digital and on-demand on Prime Video.
