Music Box Films’ genre label, Doppelgänger Releasing, has acquired U.S. distribution rights from Global Screen on satirical thriller “You Are Not Me.”

The film will have a theatrical release in selected theaters followed by a home entertainment release.

“You Are Not Me” (“Tú no eres yo”) is the debut feature from Goya-nominated Marisa Crespo and Moisés Romera. The Spanish-language film launched at Fantastic Fest in Austin, before having its international premiere at Imagine Film Festival Amsterdam.

The film centers on Aitana, who returns home for Christmas, the first time after three years, to find that her parents have replaced her with an unknown woman who is being treated like their daughter. She is her own age, sleeping in her bed, wearing her clothes, living in her house, and treated by her parents as if she were their daughter.Music Box’s Doppelganger Acquires U.S. Rights on Satirical Thriller ‘You Are Not Me’

From that moment on, torn by jealousy, suspicion, and misunderstanding, Aitana tries to find out what is happening and who the intruder is that has taken her place in the family – until she discovers an unexpected and disturbing truth that is darker and way bloodier than she would ever have thought possible.

“‘You Are Not Me’ turns a surprise visit home into a wild trip, landing you somewhere unexpected,” Brian Andreotti of Music Box Films and Doppelgänger Releasing said. “Directors Moisés Romera and Marisa Crespo have tapped into an eerie sense of unease that can accompany seeing family after a long absence, and expertly ratchets up the tension to deliver a truly haunting holiday nightmare.”

Crespo and Romera were nominated for the Goya, preselected for the Oscar and won the Méliès d’Argent for Best European Short Film for “9 Steps.”

They are now developing the feature film version of “9 Steps” as well as the fiction series “Future Is Not What It Used to Be.”

Global Screen’s recent foray into elevated genre includes supernatural survival horror “The Trek,” the upcoming first feature from leading South African cinematographer and director Meekaaeel Adam. The film is a horror-Western, in which starvation, suspicion and madness plague a family as they cross the Kalahari Desert under the eyes of primeval spirits.

The company has also boarded thriller “Sleep,” a debut feature by Michael Venus in which the Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated Sandra Hüller plays a woman plagued by horrific dreams, which become a never-ending nightmare haunting an entire village community.
