Warner Bros./New Line is no longer releasing Sony Pictures Animation‘s “Fixed,” an adult animated comedy from writer/director Genndy Tartakovsky, PvNew has learned. The distribution rights are back with SPA, which is looking at a new distribution plan for the film.

Warner Bros. Discovery dropping a Tartakovsky animatedtitle is shocking, as he is probably the biggest star to come from the company’s Cartoon Network system and was integral in its early and long-term success, having created “Dexter’s Laboratory,” “Samurai Jack,” “Star Wars: Clone Wars,” and “Primal.” He also produced “The Powerpuff Girls.” In 2022, Tartakovsky signedan exclusive, multi-year, cross-studio overall deal with Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. He has also been a significant figure for Sony. The first three “Hotel Transylvania” films, all directed by Tartakovsky and produced by the company, have grossed $1.38 billion globally.

“Fixed’ follows Bull, a bloodhound who embarks on a bucket list-type adventure after discovering he’s going to be neutered. The announced voice cast includes Adam Devine as Bull, Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Bobby Moynihan, Fred Armisen, Beck Bennett, Michaelle Bureau and River Gallo. Tartakovsky’s “Hotel Transylvania” collaborator Michelle Murdocca is back as producer.

An adult animated comedy about a dog’s ballsackbucket list may not cast as wide a net as the family-friendly monster movies, but there will surely be an audience for the film, whether it gets a theatrical run or goes straight to streaming.

Netflix is one possible candidate for the distribution deal. SPA’s “Vivo,” Wish Dragon,” and Oscar-nominated “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” all took the streaming route via Netflix.

Warners and Sony were contacted by PvNew for comment.
