IMDbPro and Reframe, a gender equity coalition founded by the Sundance Institute and Women In Film Los Angeles, have awarded the Reframe Stamp for gender-balanced hiring to 77 out of 200 of the most popular TV and streaming series of 2023 – 2024. Some of the series that received the stamp are “Abbott Elementary,” “Fallout,” “Hacks,” “Reservation Dogs” and “The Bear.”

The stamp recognizes gender-based hiring and shows the potential for productions to achieve gender equity. The 77 awardees make up 38.5% of the most popular scripted series of 2023 – 2024, a decrease of 8.5% from 2022 – 2023 and 20% down from the peak in 2020 – 2021.‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘Reservation Dogs’ Among 77 TV Shows Awarded Reframe Stamp for Gender-Balanced Productions

Other series that also received the stamp include “Baby Reindeer,” “One Day,” “Under The Bridge,” “Fellow Travelers,” Season 2 of “Cruel Summer,” “Griselda” and more.

The organizations partnered to release their Reframe Report on Gender and Hiring in TV, which found that the representation of women and nonbinary or gender-nonconforming performers in lead roles in TV and streaming series has decreased by 13% over the past year.

The study also discovered that pilot writing and directing jobs have also remained most available to men. Of the 102 pilot episodes they examined, 25.5% were directed by women and 32.4% were written by women.

The report also includes a company report card, which determines the percentage of series from each distributor that meets the Reframe Stamp criteria. With the exception of Amazon MGM Studios, distributors like Paramount, NBCU, Apple TV+ and more reflect a lower percentage of gender-balanced series than in 2020 – 2021, the first year of the report.

The list of all shows that received the stamp is available on Reframe’s website.
