The untitled “Bosch” spinoff focused on cold case detective Renee Ballard has cast John Carroll Lynch as a series regular, PvNew has learned.
As previously announced, Maggie Q will star in the Amazon MGM Studios series as Ballard while Courtney Taylor is set to play Zamira Parker. As with “Bosch,” the show is based on the work of author Michael Connelly.
The official description states the show follows Ballard, “who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”

Lynch will play Thomas Laffont, described as “a retired former police partner who comes back to help Ballard run the Cold Case Department. A kind, seasoned detective, and crack interrogator —he’s a rock for Ballard.”
Lynch is a highly versatile and talented actor, with roles across a wide variety of dramas, comedies, and horror productions. Some of his notable roles include appearing in films like “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “Zodiac,” “The Founder,” “Shutter Island,” and “Fargo.” In television, he is known for shows like “American Horror Story,” “Gaslit,” “Big Sky,” “The Drew Carey Show,” and “The Americans.”
He is repped by Suskin/Karshan Management and Schreck Rose.
The Ballard series is executive produced by Jet Wilkinson, Connelly, Michael Alaimo, and Kendall Sherwood. Alaimo and Sherwood will also serve as showrunners. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate will executive produce for Fabel Entertainment with Jasmine Russ as co-executive producer. Jamie Boscardin Martin, Mark Douglas, and Trey Batchelor will also serve as co-executive producers. Theresa Snider will co-executive produce for Hieronymus Pictures.
