‘Bridesmaids’ Director Paul Feig to Helm Bad Roommate Thriller for Blumhouse

He’s already dramatized the carnage that can ensue after eating at an iffy Brazilian steakhouse in “Bridesmaids” or performing an emergency tracheotomy at aDenny’s in “The Heat.” Now, Paul Feig will show the chaos that can be caused by a bad roomie.

The filmmaker, best known for comedies like “Spy,” will direct a new feature film for Blumhouse, the production company behind horror hits like “The Purge” and “Get Out.” It’s based on a New York Magazinearticle by William Brennan that has already led to the Netflix unscripted television series“Worst Roommate Ever.” Blumhouse produced the series, which has been a popular success — its first two seasons both ranked among the 10 most-watched shows on Netflix globally when they premiered. ‘Bridesmaids’ Director Paul Feig to Helm Bad Roommate Thriller for Blumhouse

Inside 'Deadpool & Wolverine's' Shockingly Sweet Eulogy for 20th Century Fox

Feig’s film will follow a newly single woman who finds a “seemingly perfect gentleman” to sublet a spare room in her home. However, she quickly discovers that his lies extend beyond providing a fake name and falsified application. She has unwittingly invited a serial squatter into her home and he’s not going to leave without a fight.

Feig will produce with his producing partner Laura Fischer. Also producing are Blumhouse CEO and founder Jason Blum, Chris Morgan and Vox Media’s Scoop Wasserstein. Executive producing are Chris Morgan Productions’ Ainsley Morgan, William Brennan and Blumhouse’s Bea Sequeira, and VP of creative development and production Shaun S. Sutton. Blumhouse re-teamed with Stephen Susco (“Unfriended: Dark Web”) on the screenplay. Haley Pigman is overseeing the project for Blumhouse.

“‘Worst Roommate Ever’resonates so much because as the internet has connected so many of us, it also makes it easier than ever to lie about who you are. But then the story is jaw-dropping and keeps you on the edge of your seat,” Blum said in a statement. “Paul is the perfect director for this because his work always manages to strike a balance between the dark and the light, and I’m very excited to see everything he will bring to this story.”

Although Feig is best known for comedies, he has also directed “A Simple Favor,” a crackling thriller with Anna Kendrick, Henry Golding and Blake Lively, as well as “The School for Good and Evil,” a fantasy film that Netflix released in 2022. His next project is “Jackpot,” an action-comedy that stars Awkwafina,John CenaandSimu Liu, which will debut next month on Prime Video. Additionally, Feig recently wrapped production on“A Simple Favor2.”

“Jason and I have been trying to find the perfect project to collaborate on for years and this story is tailor-made to deliver the scares, thrills, emotion and comedy of dread that both he and I like to entertain audiences with,” Feig said. “In other words, I couldn’t be happier to have Jason as the best roommate ever for this film.”

Feig is represented by CAA, Shelter PR and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
