Kirsten Olesen, Stina Ekblad and Kirsten Lehfeldt are set to reprise their roles in a sequel to Danish feature drama “The Food Club.”

LevelK are returning to distribute the film internationally.

“The Food Club 2,” which started shooting on July 1, will be directed by Charlotte Sachs Bostrup (“The Cartel,” “Mom Squad”), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Iben Gylling (“Unit One”).

The original, which was released in Oct. 2020, was a big success in Denmark.

“In ‘The Food Club 2,’ we reunite with the three lifelong friends who have relocated to the picturesque South Funen, Denmark, after their heartwarming adventures in Italy,” reads the synopsis. “Living under one roof, they cherish their weekly food club tradition while navigating the challenges and joys of life in their 70s. Amidst Denmark’s stunning landscapes and culinary delights, the trio faces new challenges and personal revelations that redefine their golden years. ‘The Food Club 2’ is a celebration of friendship, love, and the beauty of embracing life at any age.”

Troels Lyby (“Summerdahl”), Rasmus Botoft (“The Legacy”) and Mia Lyhne (“Klown”) Judy Gringer (“The Factory Outing”) and singer Michael Falch also star.

“It’s important to me to tell authentic stories where we can both laugh and cry, reflecting real people with real challenges,” said Sachs Bostrup. “In ‘The Food Club 2,’ we delve deeper into the lives of these remarkable women, exploring themes of resilience, friendship, and the richness of life in one’s golden years. It’s a story that celebrates the vitality and wisdom of older women while offering moments of humor and heartfelt emotion.”

Producer Nina Lyng said: “With the first ‘The Food Club,’ we created a humorous and warm film about three friends rediscovering themselves later in life. It received good reviews, strong box office numbers, and an ever-growing fanbase. Now, it’s time for ‘The Food Club 2.’ This sequel moves beyond age as a central theme to explore deeper aspects of life for women in their 70s, highlighting their real-life ups and downs. It’s a generational film about daring to love again.”

Nina Lyng (“The Shamer’s Daughter”) produces for Nepenthe Film, while Eva Juel Hammerich exec produces. The film is financed with support from Danish Film Institute (DFI), TV2, Film Fyn, SF Distribution and LevelK. SF Distribution are distributing domestically, with the film set to be released in lat summer 2025.
