Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to the horror film “Cursed in Baja,” which will see its world premiere Aug. 23 at FrightFest Film Festival in London.

The film follows Pirelli, an ex-lawman who travels to Mexico to search for the heir to a Los Angeles fortune, while also confronting his own complicated past.

Barbara Crampton (“You’re Next) and Jose Conejo Martin (“The Tax Collector”) star in the film alongside Jeff Daniel Phillips. Phillips also directed, produced and penned the screenplay for the film. Phillips is known for his collaborations with horror filmmaker Rob Zombie, with Phillips appearing in five of Zombie’s movies, including the 2022 reboot of “The Munsters.”Anchor Bay Entertainment Acquires Worldwide Rights to Horror Film ‘Cursed in Baja’

Anchor Bay Entertainment was relaunched by Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz, who also serve as chiefs of Umbrelic Entertainment. The pair bought the company’s trademark to reboot it and release genre films and cult favorites, after Anchor Bay was included in Starz’s 2016 sale to Lionsgate.

The company also recently acquired the rights to sci-fi film “Daddy,” an official selection at different film festivals like Dances With Films, which is set to release in 2024.

“We’re thrilled to bring Jeff and his vision into the Anchor Bay family,” Zambeck says. “’Cursed in Baja’ is an intense journey into madness, destined to take its place among the genre-bending classics that have come to define indie film.”

Kent Issacs also serves as a producer alongside Phillips. Zambeck and Katz negotiated the deal with Cole Payne of Traverse Media on behalf of the filmmakers.
