Viewership of livestreaming channels across Twitch, Kick and more platforms is up 10% from last year, per a new report, indicating a boost to that creator industry following a post-pandemic dip.

According to a second-quarter trends report published Wednesday by analytics firm Stream Hatchet, a GameSquare company, livestreaming content has been watched for 8.5 billion hours between April 1-June 30.

In gaming-focused livestreaming content, Stream Hatchet says the top titles by hours watched across all platforms for Q2 include: “Grand Theft Auto V” (510 million hours), “League of Legends” (439 million hours), “Valorant” (299 million hours), “Counter-Strike” (215 million), “Dota 2” (172 million), “Fortnite” (165 million), “Elden Ring” (161 million), “Minecraft” (158 million), “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang” (128 million) and “Call of Duty: Warzone” (127 million).Livestreamers See Viewership Climb 10% From Last Year With 8.5 Billion Hours Watched Across Twitch and More, New Report Finds

Additional takeaways from Stream Hatchet’s Q2 2024 trends report include:

  • Twitch’s dominance of the live streaming market seems to be declining – in Q2 2023, it held 70% of the market share of hours watched. In Q2 2024, that share has dropped to just 60%.
  • The top creators are losing their stranglehold on the market, with the top 5% of streamers by hours watched dropping from 98% of the total market share in Q2 2019 to just 86% in Q2 2024, indicating a more diverse market for smaller streamers.

“Through the first half of 2024, live streaming has grown past the prior peak viewership experienced during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic,” GameSquare CEO Justin Kenna said. “Live streaming’s resurgence has been fueled over the past six months by a wider variety of platforms, including Kick for non-gaming content, Rumble for political and news streams, and Chzzk for South Korean channels. Within the gaming market, ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ and ‘League of Legends’ remain the top livestreamed games during the 2024 second quarter with 510 million hours, and 439 million hours watched across all platforms, respectively. In addition, the top ten game titles represented nearly 30% of all livestreamed activity during the 2024 second quarter. The growth of live streaming continues to demonstrate the historic transformation that has occurred in the ways media and content is consumed.”
