Having triumphed in the Season 1 finale of “Unstable” over those trying to oust him from his own company, biotech genius Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe) will face new challenges in the Netflix comedy’s second season, which drops on Aug. 1. And this time, his own son, Jackson (John Owen Lowe), is among his potential usurpers, as the Season 2 trailer reveals.
In a statement provided by Netflix to accompany the trailer’s unveiling, Rob Lowe wrote: “Early response to the second season of ‘Unstable’ has been fantastic, and we are excited to share our official trailer with PvNew. As you will see, it contains some very good comedy and even better hair.”

In his praise for Season 1 of “Unstable,” which premiered in March 2023, PvNew‘s Daniel D’Addario wrote: “Those who tune in just to see a TV star bounce jokes off his real-life son will end up treated to a show with a spirited, frisky sense of humor, the ability to hit a wonderfully high percentage of the many, many densely packed jokes it attempts, and a really lovely lead performance by the junior Lowe.”
Co-stars Sian Clifford, Rachel Marsh, Emma Ferreira and Aaron Branch return for the upcoming season. Fred Armisen will reprise his recurring role as Leslie, Ellis’ therapist. Lamorne Morris and Iris Apatow also join the show’s recurring cast, playing another biotech founder and a new intern, respectively.
The show’s logline reads: “In Season 2 of ‘Unstable,’ universally admired, eccentric, narcissist-adjacent biotech entrepreneur Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe) lays out a series of challenges and mind games for his son Jackson (John Owen Lowe) to see if he has what it takes to succeed him as the heir to the Dragon empire. But does a newcomer have other ideas?”
The executive producers of “Unstable” are new showrunner Andrew Gurland, Rob Lowe, John Owen Lowe, Sean Clements and Claire Scanlon.
