On Friday evening, President Joe Biden will sit down for a conversation with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, eight days after his presidential debate with former president Donald Trump. This will be Biden’s first television interview since his shaky debate performance, which sent his campaign into a tailspin and set off a media firestorm about whether he should step down.
The first glimpses of the interview will debut at 6:30 p.m. ET on “World News Tonight with David Muir.” The discussion will air in its entirety during an ABC prime-time special at 8 p.m. PT/ET. Following last week’s debate, some of Biden’s top Hollywood donors threatened to rescind their financial support if the 46th president did not bow out of the race.
“With all the text chains I’m on, people are basically like, ‘If he doesn’t drop out, we’re not giving any more money to Democrats or the Democratic Party.’ It’s like super intense,” one top-level Hollywood donor told PvNew.
On Wednesday, Netflix co-founder and executive chairman Reed Hastings echoed this sentiment in an email sent to the New York Times, writing “Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous.”
