Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert have set up the animated comedy series “Kevin” at Amazon’s Prime Video, PvNew has learned.
Plaza and Wengert are co-writers and executive producers on the series, with Wengert also serving as showrunner. Dan Murphy will also executive produce. The series is produced by animation Titmouse, Plaza and Murphy’s Evil Hag Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios.
The official logline for the series states that it is about “a life-long housecat who decides that he doesn’t want to live with people anymore. Loosely inspired by a real break-up and the cat caught in the middle, Kevin dares to ask himself, “Is there a world where I don’t do the owner thing and am just… single for the rest of my life?”
“We’re thrilled to be working with Joe and Amazon to bring this cat’s story to the screen. We can’t wait for the world to meet Kevin!” said Plaza and Murphy.

This will mark one of Plaza’s first TV writing credits. She previously wrote an episode of the anthology series “Cinema Toast” and episodes of “UCB Comedy Originals.” Plaza is primarily known for her work onscreen, most notably her time playing April Ludgate in the popular NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” She earned an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination in 2023 for her work in Season 2 of “The White Lotus” and has also starred in shows like the animated series “Little Demon” and the Marvel series “Legion.” On the film side, Plaza has starred in features like “Emily the Criminal,” “Ingrid Goes West,” and Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming “Megalopolis.”
“Uniquely told through the lens of a housecat, this hilarious series hits on the extremely relatable theme of self-discovery and living your desired life,” said Melissa Wolfe, head of animation for Amazon MGM Studios. “Aubrey, Joe, and Dan are telling a fantastic story and this is a great addition to our growing animated slate for our global Prime Video customers.”
Wengert has previously written for shows such as “New Girl,” the animated comedies “Big Mouth” and “Human Resources” (both produced by Titmouse), and “Comedy Bang Bang.”
“I am extremely excited to be working with Amazon and my old friends Aubrey and Dan on this show,” Wengert added. “The real Kevin was with me during some of my lowest moments. This show is my chance to thank him– by creating a world where he can find less of a total bummer situation for himself.”
Plaza is repped by CAA, MGMT Entertainment, and Schreck Rose. Murphy is repped by CAA and MGMT Entertainment. Wengert is repped by CAA, Mosaic, and Yorn Levine Barnes.
