Johnny Depp’s ‘Modì’ Gets Italian Distribution Via Be Water and Maestro Distribution

The Johnny Depp-directed film “Modì,” about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, has secured a distribution deal in Italy, where it will be released by emerging production/distribution player Be Water.

“Modì” stars Italy’s Riccardo Scamarcio as the bad boy painter and sculptor, who worked mainly in France and became famous for the groundbreaking modern style of his portraits and nudes. Al Pacinoplays international art collector Maurice Gangnat. The “Modì” cast also comprises Antonia Desplat, Stephen Graham (“The Irishman”), Bruno Gouery (“The White Lotus”), Ryan McParland (“Halo”), Benjamin Lavernhe (“Jean du Barry”) and Sally Phillips (“Bridget Jones” trilogy).

“Modì” takes place in war-torn Paris during World War I over the course of 48 turbulent hours “that will become a turning point in his life, ultimately solidifying his reputation as an artistic legend,” according to the film’s provided synopsis.

The Italian distribution of Modì is being handled by Be Water in collaboration withMaestro Distribution, the new company founded byClaudio Rapinowith the participation of Andrea Iervolino’sIlbeandRS Productions.

The film is produced by Barry Navidi Productions and IN.2 Films with Andrea Iervolino, CEO of theIlbeGroup.

“Modi” is represented for international sales by Veterans and Range Media Partners for North America, who also negotiated the ILBE and Red Sea Film Fund participation in Depp’s sophomore directorial outing.

Be Water Film just released Francesco Lettieri’s Naples-set “Il segreto di Liberato” — which rose to the top of the Italian box office last week — and will, as previously announced, distributePaul Schrader’s Cannes competition title “Oh, Canada” in Italy in collaboration withMedusa.

Upcoming titles for which Maestro Distribution is handling Italian rights include crime comedy “Riff Raff,” directed byDito Montiel,and “Bring Them Down,” written and directed byChris Andrewsand starringBarry Keoghan.
