Nikki Glaser ripped on Ben Affleck for bombing at Netflix’s Tom Brady roast, telling Barstool Sports’ “KFC Radio” podcast that it was abundantly clear the Oscar winner came unprepared to the live taping. Affleck was one of the event’s surprise roasters.
“I haven’t watched it again, like how it looked, because I don’t like to watch people bomb,” Glaser said of Affleck’s roast set. “He didn’t prepare. He’s someone who’s famous enough he probably thinks it’s beneath him to do this. Like, ‘I’m just gonna do a favor, it’s not gonna be that big of a deal.’ And then you do it and you go, ‘Oh! This is way bigger than I thought it was going to be. I’m just kind of phoning it in,'”
“He probably had a pitch to the writers, probably of like, ‘Maybe I do an angle where I’m mad about tweets?’ Because that’s his thing,” Glaser added, referring to the awkward moment during Affleck’s set where he seemed to know he was bombing and thus told off angry social media commenters.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get this chance again,” Affleck said live on stage. “I’m probably never going to work again, actually, after tonight…You guys out there talking shit all right, behind your fucking keyboard, that doesn’t make you a fan. That makes you a bitch.”
The crowd wasn’t too into Affleck’s set either as his jokes were met with minimal laughs and applause.
“There were so many jokes that didn’t get used that could’ve filled up an entire set of his that would’ve been amazing, but either they couldn’t get him on the phone enough to work out something, he didn’t practice enough or he just picked a bad premise and then he had to stick to it the whole time,” Glaser added about Affleck. “It didn’t work right away, so it’s not gonna work later…if your joke bombs, you’re onto the next one. That’s probably what he should’ve done.”
The Netflix roast of Tom Brady proved to be an enormous hit with subscribers. The event was one of the headlining events ofNetflix Is a Joke Festand was hosted by Kevin Hart and roast master Jeff Ross. Comedians such as Glaser, Tom Segura, Andrew Schulz, Bert Kreischer, Tony Hinchcliffe and Sam Jay took part in the roast along with Brady’s former teammates Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Drew Bledsoe and more.
Brady admitted on “The Pivot Podcast” a few days after the event that he regretted being roasted because some of the jokes ended up upsetting his children. He didn’t specify which jokes, but many viewers assume it was those targeting his relationship with Gisele Bündchen.
“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids,” Brady admitted on the podcast. “It’s the hardest part about … like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize: I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”
“It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it,” Brady continued. “Sometimes you’re naive. You don’t know … I’m going to be a better parent as I go forward because of it. At the same time, I’m happy everyone who was there had a lot of fun. If we’re not laughing about things, we’re crying.”
Glaser, however, wasn’t totally buying Brady’s reaction. During an interview on “Today With Hoda & Jenna”, the comedian questioned how much Brady could have been blindsided by the roast jokes.
“I also think Tom Brady does not do anything without doing his research and knowing exactly what he’s getting into,” Glaser said. “It’s impossible to me that he didn’t consider what could have happened because there’s roast footage out there that you can watch and go, ‘They’re gonna go this hard.’”
Glaser added, “But then, there’s a part of me that thinks that Tom Brady, especially given his career and how much people love him, no one’s ever said a bad thing to him in the past 30 years, so he doesn’t know what anyone’s capable of going there.”
Glaser was one of many comedians who roasted Brady over his divorce to Bündchen, who started a relationship with her jiu-jitsu instructor after her marriage ended.
“Tom Brady. Five-time Super Bowl MVP, most career wins, most career touchdowns,” Glaser quipped during the roast. “You have seven rings — well, eight, now that Gisele gave hers back. The only thing dumber than saying yes to this roast was when you said, ‘Hey babe, you should try jiu-jitsu.’”
