After sharing some strong feelings about being left out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in December, Cher has reversed her stance on the subject following her nomination this year.
While on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” late last year, the iconic singer stated that her omission left her with a sour taste and that she would never join the Hall of Fame if they offered. “I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars,” she said. “I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
Now, after she was included as a nominee for this year’s class alongside Mary J. Blige, Peter Frampton and Ozzy Osbourne, she’s changed her opinion on attending the ceremony this fall. “I can thank David Geffen, my friend and most wonderful person ever, and John Sikes,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m going to have some words to say. I’m going to accept it as me.”

She isn’t the only artist who’s bristled at their inclusion, or lack thereof, in recent years. Dolly Parton was included in the 2022 class of inductees, and initially said she would decline the nomination.
“Even though I am extremely flattered to be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” she wrote in a statement. “I really do not want the votes split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out. I do hope that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy.” Inevitably, Parton “graciously” accepted the nomination.
